New Chief Executive for NHS Borders
NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR NHS BORDERS
A new Chief Executive is set to take over at NHS Borders. Calum Campbell has been appointed as Chief Executive of the Board and will take up his new post in January 2010. Returning to Scotland after working in Wales since February 2006, Calum was most recently Acting Chief Executive at ABM University NHS Trust. Prior to this he held the positions of Acting Chief Executive with Swansea NHS Trust, and Assistant Chief Executive at ABM.
Calum was educated at Paisley University where he gained a BA Honours degree in Health Studies and at Glasgow Caledonia University where he received an MBA. He started working with the NHS in Scotland in 1984, initially as a nurse, and then Health Visitor before moving into general management. He balanced these full-time career demands with his part-time job as a professional football player.
Calum said: “I am delighted to be offered this post and look forward to joining NHS Borders to build on the success the Board has achieved to date in meeting the health needs of the population. I am looking forward to returning to work in Scotland. I feel that the experience and skills I have gained elsewhere will be beneficial in helping ensure that the health services in Borders can continue to develop to meet the needs of the population it serves.
“The opportunity to be Chief Executive is both exciting and a challenge that I am looking forward to.”
Mary Wilson, NHS Borders Chair, said: “NHS Borders has been successful in attracting a high calibre appointment in Calum, who will be taking over from the very safe hands of John Glennie. Staff and the people of the Borders should be assured that NHS Borders will continue to serve their health needs and deliver high quality health care.”
