What we do:
Enable patients to reach the highest attainable standard of health by providing in open partnership with them and nursing care which reflects their individual needs and those of their family.

About our services:
A wide variety of services are provided, with three wards, Day Hospital, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy Services. BECS (Borders Care Emergency Service) and Minor Injuries Services are also provided 6.00pm - 8.00am Monday - Friday and weekends.

Main Services are:

Ward 1
19 GP managed beds for:

  • Acute Medical Conditions
  • Assessment
  • Palliative Care
  • Rehabilitation
  • Nurse led Minor Injuries Service
  • BECS Out of Hours Service is based in Ward 1 and covers Kelso, Coldstream and Greenlaw practice areas.

Ward 2

  • 16 Rehab/5 GP Beds (now also covering Coldstream practice) providing:
  • Continuing Nursing Care for elderly patients with complex needs or unstable medical condition
  • Continuing Rehabilitation for elderly patients who require a longer period of care to achieve their potential
  • Palliative Care for the elderly person in the final stages of life who has continuing nursing needs as assessed by Dr Bennison, Consultant in Charge

Doctors from the local GP practice visit daily Monday - Friday to provide medical supervision.
A BGH Consultant for the Elderly visits weekly in reviewing patient care and leads the local multidisciplinary team.

Physiotherapy Service
The physiotherapy staff, working closely with other health professionals, provide a service to the patients of Kelso community either as an in-patient or when attending the Day Hospital or Physiotherapy Out-patient Clinic.

Specialist Services
The Physiotherapy Department is also used on a regular basis by other specialist services.

  • Paediatric Service & Orthorptic Clinic Borders
  • Back Service

Occupational Therapy
The Occupational Therapy staff work as part of an inter-disciplinary team providing a service into:

  • Ward 1
  • Ward 2
  • Day Hospital
  • Out-patients

OTs work with a variety of medical conditions and undertake:

  • Assessment
  • Rehabilitation
  • Discharge Planning

Speech & Language Therapy
This service is by appointment with the visiting clinician.
