The department is open 24 hours a day.The A&E Department within the Borders General Hospital is staffed at all times by a doctor and a team of trained nurses.

The A&E department is open for all emergency cases from any area.
About our services:
The accident and emergency department has three main functions. These are:
- to provide immediate attention to people with life-threatening problems;
- to treat patients who have injuries as a result of recent accidents;
- to assess and treat people who have been referred by a GP.
